Using Modern Technology To Bring Horsepower To Vintage Musclecars
What do the terms LT-1, L-79 and LS-6 have in common? They were all powerful factory engines in their day. In this day and age they represent an investment, if your classic car has a factory installed high horsepower motor its value is greater than a standard power plant. Today while many of these prized vehicles are not driven anymore there are still a great number of those that are. We are here for those people that want to drive their high horsepower vintage muscle cars.
Simply. What we do is take your vintage muscle car and make it better. Through the use of modern day racing engine methodologies we re engineer your cars powerplant to produce more horsepower and torque without sacrificing drivability. The "old school" methods of achieving this were to increase compression, install a large camshaft and alter the intake/exhaust system. While we do employ a certain amount of that we also take the project to an entirely different level. Through the use of computer design software and dyno testing we are able to bring a new element of power to a vintage correct musclecar powerplant
Using the correct engine block, cylinder heads and induction hardware we are able to make a significant increase in horsepower and torque without altering the external appearance of the power plant. This task is also accomplished while maintaining the use of premium pump fuels and operation of vacuum dependent accessories. How do we do it? By managing the combustion process much more efficiently and creating a power package that is much more compatible. The 1970 Chevrolet LT-1 is often cited as being the most potent of the factory Chevrolet small blocks. In the Corvette the motor made 370 horsepower with solid lifters and 11:1 compression. We have made LT-1 motors that run on pump gas, sound just like the original yet produce in excess of 425 horsepower.
There are a number of factors that make the work we do different from your corner machine shop. We are a full fledged engine repair facility. An LT-1 is not LT-1 if it does not have the classic double hump casting symbol. How do you make a set of those cylinder heads flow? The answer is porting. We are very well equipped to analyze and adjust the cylinder head airflow characteristics to make drivable horsepower. What we do is very different from what the average guy does at home in his garage with a die grinder. The work that we do is proven to build horsepower, not just turn your cylinder heads into powder. The cylinder head is just one of the elements that is taken into account when building a performance enhanced engine. We look at compression ratios, camshaft profiles and airflow characteristics to extract the most out of any power plant.
